Instinct was the University of Minnesota’s Apparel Design fashion show for 2017. The apparel students had been working on their designs since August. After months of hundreds of sketches, endless brainstorming, the selection of fabrics and models, final line decisions were made. All of the sleepless nights (on-top of all of their other school work, activities, and social life), it was finally time for the designers to show off their expertise and personal aesthetics.
Sarah’s love for running inspired her for this clothing line. She has been running cross country for her whole life, and is on the University’s cross country team. This past summer she interned with Target Corporate as a design intern. Although she was not able to work in the athletic department, it is still her dream to work and design for Nike someday. Her clothing line embodied a futuristic running warrior. Reflective elements were used throughout each garment, and unique colors of rustic orange, teal, and maroon set the line apart from current trending items out there now.
The black make up across our faces really enhances the looks, and embodies the inner running warrior who will not back down.

The TopShop dress selection catches my eye once again. We frantically walked in 20 minutes before closing praying to find something, and did! This taffeta dress adds a mix of shine into my outfit. I loved the tight fit around the waist and then the layering pieces of fabric making the rest of the dress fuller. The choker completed the look, matching the color tones of my Steve Madden boots.

We wanted to go somewhere more reserved, and saw great reviews for this place. When the Uber dropped us off, the people in line in front of us were told it was going to be a 45 minute wait. We then went to the door woman and told her we would like to be added to the list, and receive a text when we could go in. We also asked for recommendations for other bars since we were not from NY, and wanted a nicer place for my birthday. Coincidently the door woman was also from Minnesota, and magically said we could go in at that moment. We got our own booth as well, perfectly fitting five of us.
The atmosphere was very very dark. We even had to use our phone lights to be able to read the menu. The waiter brought over more mini candles, but the lighting was not idea. Thank goodness I do not need glasses. The drinks had fun names, I tried the “Lipstick Vogue” and hated it due to the rum. Overall I loved the quaint and intimate atmosphere, and would recommend the place.
I had the opportunity to attend the NRF's Big Show this January. This got me thinking about the impact that I want to make on the now omni-channel driven market sector of retail. Only time will tell, and the ultimate accomplishment is to someday be on the stage myself. Sharing a room with Karen Katz, Rebecca Minkoff, Heidi O'Neill, Paul Gainer, and Jean Chatzky was unforgettable.
A great quote we heard: "Amateurs practice until they get it right; Professionals practice until they cannot get it wrong"
We had the opportunity to represent the University of Minnesota at the NRF Big Show! Being in the same room as @rebeccaminkoff was truly amazing and inspiring at the NRF Big Show! Her claim to fame came with one of her I ❤️ NY shirts being featured on The Tonight Show. Her iconic "The Morning After Bag" and entire handbag line really became noticed from attention on the streets of New York. People passing the bag on the street would stop and as her where she got it from. Soon she was making bags all night long on her apartment floor. ADVICE: Never say no to an opportunity you have not tried. If Rebecca wouldn't have said yes to making a bag for a movie after being on the Tonight Show (even though she had never made one before) the fashion world would be missing amazing bags, clothes, shoes, and a woman who knows how to promote hard work.
I was an early fan. The anticipation of logging on and constantly refreshing the page until the moment the store opened was half the fun. Although now the product assortment of lip kits are more readily available online, the new exclusive products always sell out at the speed of light.
My Opinion: The matte lipsticks stay on SO WELL. After eating an apple, the color still does not fade. Now that is amazing.
Cons: Your lips need to be highly moisturizer before putting this on (or you will have cracked lines along your lip creases)
koko K - More brown than I was expecting
Koko K Gloss- REALLY sticky! Do not get caught in the wind with this and long hair
Smile - My FAV. The color actually looks light pink on me, aside from Koko K, where it was a darker tone than expected.
Andrea does it all! She knows how to bring out any model's inner confidence and has so much tool for large skirts, that had to be one of my favorite parts

I shot with localtourist82 with real film as well as a Polaroid that can do double exposures. The location was outside the Machine Shop which hosts local artists. The mixture of the abnormally warm day for November and the wind made these pictures great.
I owe my love for clothing and putting all of the pieces together to every episode of Gossip Girl and my high school trip to New York as a fashion study tour. In my freshman year of college, I started working at Saks Fifth Ave OFF 5th which used to be a full-line Saks. When this store closed, I got designer items up to 70 percent off and instantly fell in love with big names. To this day, I am still in awe that I got buy one, get one free Marc Jacobs bags.
As for my style, it is very girly and trendy. You will never catch me in sweats out in public (unless they are cute jogger pants). Lately, I have been really into the baseball hat trend and am wearing a leather David & Young cap from Nordstrom. One of my philosophies is to always have a nice watch as an investment piece. I am wearing a rhinestone Michael Kors one, and I also love Marc Jacobs as well as kate spade watches. Gold is also my color, and can be seen in this long choker from Saks and the studded leather motorcycle jacket by Ellen Tracy. Alex & Ani has also been an addiction lately as I now have seven.
In the summer, you can typically find me in a skirt or some high-waisted shorts. My skirt and top are both from Forever 21. The way I like to think of it is that Instagram is such a hot commodity that people will remember what you wore recently due to the all the photos, so why not buy cheap and fast fashion at Forever 21? The winged liner is also a favorite of mine this summer. Never be afraid to try out a new or different beauty trend! I feel as if so many people have been stuck in the same beauty routine for years, but go off-track and try out something new on the weekends. NYX is great for trying new things with their low prices.
I have been involved with the Fashion & Business club for the University of Minnesota since freshman year. Between meeting new people, networking events, fashion shows, and giving back to the community I have loved the opportunity to be apart of this club.
This semester I served as the vice president, and now will be the president this coming semster, hoping to put on a great show this spring. We had a previous blog, and just launched a new one TWIN.
